SMETA awareness and ethical-audit preparation

SMETA is Sedex’s social-audit methodology for examining defined workplace conditions and practices. A learning enquiry should distinguish awareness and preparation from delivery of an audit by an approved Affiliate Audit Company.

Identify the site, buyer expectations and requested audit scope. Discuss responsible evidence preparation, worker perspectives and corrective-action management without scripting answers or concealing concerns. A SMETA audit is not a universal certification of ethical conduct or proof that every supply-chain impact is resolved.

Practical discussion topics

  • Audit scope and workplace boundaries
  • Labour and health/safety evidence
  • Environmental/business-ethics scope where applicable
  • Worker engagement and confidential information
  • Corrective-action ownership and ongoing review

Who should discuss this subject

Social-compliance, HR, procurement and site-management teams.

Prepare a useful enquiry
